COMPACT REEL-READY ROD · CONCEPT IN DEVELOPMENT · FUTURE ROD-ONLY OFFERING

Design preview. The Minnow is now being developed for a compatible small spinning reel. Prototypes have not yet been built. On-water testing is still ahead; final specifications may change.

Rod only at a future launch. Reel, line and tackle will not be included. Nothing is available to order.

A little rod for nearby water.

The Minnow is taking a new direction: a compact rod for close-range fishing with a customer-supplied small spinning reel. We are exploring short underhand presentations and drift-and-retrieve fishing around accessible pockets and pond edges. Approximately 27 inches is our current design estimate, not a final product length. Hardware, blank choice and actual length may change after prototyping.

How you fish it

Pair the finished rod with a compatible small spinning reel and suitable line and tackle. The plan is to include an installed reel seat or secure mount, lightweight line guides and a fitted tip-top on the rod. The specific hardware and compatible reel sizes have not yet been established.

Use a controlled, short underhand presentation to place a suitable rig into nearby water, then follow a short drift and retrieve. The rig needs enough appropriate weight to work with the eventual rod, reel and line combination. A tiny bait alone may not cast well. Where bait is permitted, a small baited rig may be an option; use an appropriate artificial presentation where required. Exact rigs and line and lure ratings will be established only after prototype testing.

A short rod limits reach and drift control. Keep presentations close, choose a low, accessible bank, and allow room for safe casting. We are not promising a casting distance or a minimum lure weight. Tall banks, distant water, heavy cover and larger fish call for other tackle. Children need adult supervision around hooks and water.

Intended catches

Small bluegill and other sunfish are the starting point, with common shiners or dace where they can legally be targeted and where the eventual tested setup is suitable. These are intended fishing situations, not a tested fish-size capacity or a catch guarantee. Identify the species and check the exact water’s rules first.

Why you’ll enjoy it

The appeal is in making a familiar pond edge or little pocket of water interesting again: a careful short presentation, watching the drift, and bringing the rig back for another try. A small spinning reel gives you line storage and a retrieve to explore. The Minnow is being developed for curiosity, short fishing sessions and the small-water enthusiast who appreciates a distinctive fishing gift.

Design expectations

We are aiming for a compact, comfortable rod with useful feedback for close-range presentations. A fine-tip solid-fiberglass blank with an extra-fast taper was considered for the earlier design. Blank choice and action are now being reassessed for the reel-ready build; no finished-rod action, sensitivity, strength, line or lure rating has been established.

Oak, natural jute, quiet green accents and a black rubber butt cap remain our material inspiration. Handle dimensions, grip layout and the reel-mount arrangement must work together, so they may change during development. Reel compatibility, balance, wet grip, comfort and durability all need prototype and on-water testing. Universal reel fit is not promised.

The earlier material study

Oak, jute and green details express the direction we are exploring. This is not a finished-product photograph. Earlier dimension diagrams and gift-package illustrations have been set aside while the reel-ready design develops. No box, wooden accessory case or tackle is confirmed as part of the future rod-only offering.

Before you fish

Check the rules for the exact water and species. Great Smoky Mountains National Park permits only artificial flies or lures with single hooks; bait and liquid scents are prohibited. Handle fish gently with wet hands and minimize time out of water. Read the official park fishing guidance.

For general species guidance, explore bluegill fishing guidance from Missouri Department of Conservation. This describes fishing methods, not tests of The Minnow.

Prototypes have not yet been built. The working name, final specifications, price and launch timing have not been set. The future plan is to offer the rod only, with the customer supplying a compatible reel, line and tackle. The Minnow is unavailable to order.
